what is the 40 days programme?
A journey to recapture the reflections of the disciples as they began their time with the risen lord Jesus Christ. How they spent that time and how the church began to launch into mission mode in the most extroadinary way. This is done by journalling a daily time with God to reflect on the 40 days with the risen lord Christ. This is also done by small groups discussing the implications of being like Acts 2. This is done collectively as a church family as a passion for the ;ost is stirred through prayer and proclamation of Jesus Christ and consequently as Transformation of your community occurs as God loves to answer these kinds of prayers.
how it can be used?
The material can be used as a whole church venture or as an individual who is seeking to use something new in their quiet time reflections.
how it works?
Every person has a personal prayer journal called 40 days with the risen lord or DVD (visual version). Each day you are asked to reflect on the passage and pray to your heavenly father about that passage. You are also asked to think about people that you would like to pray for and name them in your prayers and written in your journal. The small groups in your church will act as a means of encourgaing you in this and rejoicing together as God answers the prayers. The passages for each day also discuss the dynamics of proclaiming Christ as a church body and what that may mean for your local church in your local community. The sermons are then also geared towards the reflections upon the NT Missional Church and how the gospel spread and transformed lives, families, communities, churches, and cities. This leads up to Pentecost weekend which God is placing around the global as an Historic Global Day of Prayer. www.globaldayofprayer.com
where it originated?
The course originated from some reflections I had about the church. Our church had been the second church in Australia to do the 40 days of purpose. I had spent a great deal of time sharing this with other churches as the interest grew in it. People began to ask me about anything else and we had not heard of anything. I started to research a paper on prayer & evangelism and realised their was an incredible gap in many denominations in placing these two crucials activities side by side. God stirred within me an idea to create the 40 days with the risen Lord. It was picked up as an idea and 7000 people jumped on it in it's first year. We have improved upon it and created more resources for families and children so that more ages can be apart of the whole journey. We are now seeking to translate it!
what its aims are?
40 days with the risen lord aims to stir up peoples prayer life to have compassion for the lost around them. It aims to provide a creative way of encouraging the habit of a daily quiet time. It aims to transform churches and communities as God's people call out to him and he answers them.
